Honduras is located in the heart of Central America. The country covers 112,482 square kms and is about the size of Tennessee or Virginia. It has 3 borders, the western with Guatemala, the southwest with El Salvador and the east with Nicaragua. To the North lies the Caribbean Sea and to the South the Pacific Ocean.

The population of Honduras is estimated at seven million inhabitants.

Spanish is the official language of Honduras. English is spoken in most tourist areas.

TACA, Continental, American and and Delta offer direct flights to Honduras from Houston, Miami and Atlanta. Connections to La Ceiba are made with local carriers Islena, Sosa, Atlantic Airlines and Islandia.

Entering Honduras requires a valid passport. You can enter and stay 30 days in Honduras without a visa if you have a USA, Canadian or most European country passport.


The Lempira is the official currency of Honduras. Major credit cards and travelers checks in US$ are widely accepted and cash advances can be made with credit cards at most banks.

These species find their homes in a variety of ecosystems in Honduras, such as cloud forest, pine forest, mangroves, savannas, dry forest and tropical forest. These diverse areas are home to over 10,000 vascular plants.

La Ceiba is regarded as the Ecotourism capital of Honduras. It is also regarded as one of the most vibrant cities in Central America and is home to the largest carnival in the region, which is held annually in May.

Pico Bonito National Park the second largest national park in Honduras is located minutes from downtown and adjoins Las Cascadas Lodge.

La Ceiba. It covers an area of 1073 square kilometers and reaches a height of 2436 meters. Due to its vast size and range of elevations it is one of the most naturally diverse areas in Central America.
